Connecticut College's Tang Honored as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College senior Emma Tang of Rochester, N.Y. has been honored as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education Magazine. Tang was named to the First Team of the Track & Field squad.

Furbush Selected as Bates Men's Basketball Head Coach
LEWISTON, Maine - Jonathan R. Furbush, assistant mens basketball coach at Springfield College and former assistant coach and player at Bates College, has been named the new mens basketball coach at Bates. Furbush, a 2005 Bates graduate and native of South Portland, Maine, becomes the college's 21st head mens basketball coach. He replaces Joe Reilly, who stepped down in April to take the head coaching position at Wesleyan University.

Colby Taps Thompson as Men's Lacrosse Head Coach
WATERVILLE, Maine Jon Thompson, who played and coached at Brown University, has been named as the new head coach of the Colby College mens lacrosse program. Thompson, a 2003 graduate of Brown, was the first assistant coach for the 2008 Ivy League champion Bears. He grew up in Freeport, Maine, and was a three-sport athlete in lacrosse, soccer, and ice hockey at North Yarmouth Academy. Thompson takes over as Colbys head coach from Rob Quinn, who is the new athletic director at Berwick Academy.

Moore of Bowdoin Nominated by NESCAC for NCAA Woman of the Year Award
HADLEY, Mass. - Grace Moore (Groton, Mass.), a 2008 graduate of Bowdoin College and a former member of the Polar Bears womens soccer and womens lacrosse squads, has been nominated for the 2008 NCAA Woman of the Year Award by the NESCAC. The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership. The award has been given annually since 1991.

Tonucci of Bowdoin Selected for NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
HADLEY, Mass. Bowdoin junior Phil Tonucci (Hingham, Mass.) has been selected by the NCAA to serve on the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Tonucci will be entering his third season with the Polar Bear Football team this fall and will also serve as a member of the NESCAC SAAC in addition to his role as a part of the Bowdoin SAAC.
