2004 Baseball Players of the Week
May 10, 2004
Mark Mazzone, Amherst
(Freshman, Infielder/Designated Hitter - Chicago, Ill.)
Amherst rookie Mark Mazzone plated senior Paul Whiting with a
game-winning RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth
inning on Sunday, giving the Jeffs (19-16) a dramatic 5-4 win over
archrival Williams in the final game of the NESCAC Championship
Tournament. The victory afforded Amherst its first-ever conference
title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National
Championship Tournament, with regional play set to begin on
Thursday, May 20, at an on-campus site yet to be determined. Mazone
pounded out four of the Jeffs’ eight hits and drove in a pair
of runs in the championship game.

Andrew Green, Amherst
(Sophomore, Outfielder - Lexington, Mass.)
Amherst sophomore Andrew Green batted .625 (10-for-16) with a
team-high six RBI after being inserted into the starting lineup for
the first time this season on Friday, and his timing couldn’t
have been better. He had three hits, two RBI and a stolen base in
Friday’s key 9-2 win at Middlebury, then notched one of only
three Amherst hits in Saturday’s dramatic 1-0 win over the
Panthers, which clinched a spot in the four-team NESCAC Tournament
for the Jeffs. He then went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs in
Sunday’s 6-2 win at Bates.
April 26, 2004
Adam Kacamburas, Tufts
(Senior, Third Baseman - North Reading, Mass.)
Kacamburas hit .500 in four games (7-14) with six runs scored, six
runs batted in, and seven walks. He was 5-for-11 (.455) with five
runs scored and six runs batted in as Tufts swept its NESCAC East
weekend series from Colby to remain in the hunt for a conference
tournament berth. Kacamburas was 3 for 3 with three doubles, three
runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 11-1 victory over the Mules.
April 19, 2004
Chris Kenney, Williams
(Freshman, Catcher - Walpole, Mass.)
Kenney went 8-18 with three home runs with eight runs scored, nine
RBI and one walk as Williams went 5-0 last week. Two of his three
homers came in a 4-2 win over Bates including a two run job in the
top of the eighth to win the game for the Ephs.
April 12, 2004
Drew McKenna, Bates
(Senior, First Baseman - Middleboro, Mass.)
McKenna hit four home runs last week, including three in a
three-game sweep of divisional rival Colby. McKenna tied the score
in the bottom of the eighth with a solo homer in a 6-5 win over the
Mules on Friday, then hit a two-run blast in a 12-1 win in the
first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. In the second game,
McKenna hit another solo homer to give Bates a five-run lead in a
9-7 win. McKenna hit .400 on the week, had six RBI, and had a 1.000
slugging percentage.
Jeff Natale,
Trinity
(Junior, Second Baseman - Hamden, Conn.)
Natale went 6-for-12 in four Bantam wins, with eight runs, eight
RBI, two doubles, and two home runs. He also had one walks and six
HBP in four games to post a .685 on-base percentage for the week
(13-18). His three run homer in the eighth inning against Tufts
gave Trinity a 12-11 win against Tufts to complete a three-game
sweep on the road and extend Trinity's winning streak to eight
games.
April 5, 2004
Jeff Natale, Trinity
(Junior, Second Baseman - Hamden, Conn.)
Natale went 11-for-15 (.733) in four Bantam wins, with nine runs,
seven RBI and four doubles. He also had five walks and one HBP (hit
by pitch) in three games against Bates to post an .810 on-base
percentage for the week (17-21).
March 29, 2004
T.J. McLeod, Bowdoin
(Senior, Outfielder - Gorham, Maine)
Bowdoin's T.J. McLeod led the Polar Bears to a two-of-three game
series win at fifth-ranked Trinity last weekend in Hartford. McLeod
batted .667 in the three games, going 8-12 from the leadoff
position with four runs scored, two stolen bases and two doubles.
McLeod leads the Polar Bears with a .500 batting average so far
this season.
Mark Tremblay,
Trinity
(Junior, Pitcher - Hooksett, N.H.)
Tremblay won all three of his starts, helping Trinity get off to an
11-3 start to the season. Tremblay allowed just two earned runs in
16.1 innings (1.10 ERA) with seven strikeouts. Tremblay defeated
NESCAC East rival Bowdoin on Saturday, allowing one earned run in
5.1 innings. He also tossed a two-hit shutout against William
Paterson and allowed one earned run over six innings in a 5-2 win
over St. Joseph's (Maine).
