Trinity's Melendez Named All-America by AFCA

HADLEY, Mass. – Trinity senior defensive back Harry Melendez (Holyoke, Mass.) has been honored by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as All-America, it was announced on Monday. Melendez, an All-NESCAC First Team selection this fall, was the only individual from a NESCAC team on the 25-player squad. It is the second time in the past three years that a player from the conference has received All-America from the AFCA.

Melendez was part of a Trinity defensive unit that recorded a NESCAC-best 18 interceptions. Tying the conference and program record with nine picks this fall, Melendez made two interceptions in a single game on four separate occasions. He also had 22 tackles and eight pass break-ups as he earned All-NESCAC First Team honors for the first time in his career. The Bantams finished the 2010 campain as the runner-up in the conference with a 7-1 record.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions.
