CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Tufts quarterback Anthony Fucillo and Bryant running back Jordan Brown received the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Awards for week nine of the 2010 football season.
Fucillo, a native of Winthrop, Mass., finished the day 42 of 63 with 503 yards and three touchdowns. His 503 yards through the air broke a New England Division III record, erasing Sean Austin from UMass Boston's 497 yards during the 1992 season. In turn, was also a New England Small College Athletic Conference record and a Jumbos' single-game record. He also became the Jumbo program's single-season passing yardage leader with 1,880 yards this fall. Fucillo also rushed for two touchdowns in the game. Fucillo was named this week's NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. The last Tufts player to win a Gold Helmet was running back Will Forde, who was honored in 2008.
Brown, a sophomore from Glastonbury, Conn., rushed for a career-high 200 yards on 38 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead Bryant to a 24-7 win over visiting Albany before 3,756 fans Saturday. Brown's 41-yard touchdown run in the first quarter put the Bulldogs up 7-0 in the first. After Albany came back to tie the game with a score at the start of the second, Brown put the Bulldogs back on top with what would prove to be the game-winning score from a yard out just before halftime. This is Brown's second Golden Helmet award of 2010 after rushing for over 100 yards in a 44-30 season-opening victory over Fordham. Brown also earned co-Northeast Athletic Conference player of the week honors for his efforts Saturday.
