Field Hockey All-Conference Teams Released

Amherst's Bowe Named Player of the Year

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior forward/midfielder Gretchen Bowe of Amherst was named the 2000 NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Year. A 1999 first team All-American, Bowe scored seven goals and added five assists before missing the end of the season with an ACL injury.

Bowe was one of three players to repeat as first team All-NESCAC selections. Junior backs Sarah Banister of Bowdoin and Molly Venter of Williams each earned first-team recognition for the second consecutive year. Banister was the top defender and fourth-leading scorer for the Polar Bears. Venter, a 1999 All-American who missed time late in the season due to injury, was the backbone of the Ephs’ defense.

Other players from conference champion Bowdoin named to the first team were first-year goalkeeper Jill McDonald and sophomore attack Leah McClure. McDonald led the conference in goals against average and McClure led the team in scoring and was tied for the conference scoring lead entering NCAA play.

Freshman forward Emily Huffman of Connecticut College shared the conference lead in scoring and was named the 2000 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, while also earning first-team all-conference accolades. Bowdoin fifth-year head coach Nicky Pearson was named 2000 NESCAC Coach of the Year.

The other forwards named to the first team were senior left wing Carlin Aloe of Wesleyan and sophomore Steph Noering of Williams. Each led their respective team in scoring and finished among the top five scorers in the conference.

Junior midfielder Mairin Brady of Amherst, and junior midfielder Lindsay Lionetti and senior sweeper Colette Gaudet of Tufts were named to the first team. Brady scored five goals and assisted on five others. Lionetti and Gaudet each scored six goals this season.
