2006 Field Hockey Players of the Week
November 6, 2006
Val Young, Bowdoin
(Junior, Defender - Concord, N.H.)
Young anchored a Polar Bear defense that allowed no goals and only
two shots on net en route to the 2006 NESCAC Field Hockey
Championship last weekend. She also had the assist on the decisive
goal in Sunday’s championship match against Middlebury.
Lindsay McNamara,
Bowdoin
(Sophomore., Forward - Milton, Mass.)
McNamara provided all the offense for the Polar Bears during their
quest for a second- straight NESCAC Field Hockey crown, scoring
both game-winners in a pair of 1-0 victories over the weekend. She
currently leads the NESCAC in goals scored with 15..

Michelle Kelly, Tufts
(First Year, Forward - Downingtown, Pa.)
Kelly provided half of the offense for the Jumbos last week,
scoring five of Tufts’ 10 goals including all three
game-winners in a 3-0 week. Kelly started the week with a hat trick
on Wednesday in a victory over Endicott, followed with the first
goal of a 2-0 win against Connecticut College on Saturday. She
wrapped up the week on Sunday in the first round of the NESCAC
tournament, scoring with four minutes remaining to lift the Jumbos
past Trinity 2-1.

Marilyn Duffy-Cabana, Tufts
(Senior, Goalkeeper - Amesbury, Mass.)
Duffy-Cabana was the backbone behind two huge NESCAC wins by Tufts
last week that put the Jumbos in a strong position heading into the
NESCAC Championship beginning on Sunday. During a mid-week victory
over Wesleyan, Duffy- Cabana made five saves while allowing only
one goal. On Saturday against Williams, she stopped six shots for
her fourth shutout of the season.

Meghan McGillen, Middlebury
(Senior, Goalkeeper - East Harwich, Mass.)
McGillen was the backbone for the Panthers during two wins last
week over nationally-ranked opponents. On Saturday at NESCAC foe
Williams, McGillen made 11 saves to post her fifth shutout of the
season during a 2-0 win over the previously-unbeaten Ephs. She
followed up the feat with seven more saves in a 3-2 overtime win
over Ursinus.

Meighan McGowan, Williams
(Sophomore, Forward - Greenwich, Conn.)
McGowan was instrumental in the Ephs’ 2-0 NESCAC weekend,
collecting two goals and three assists as Williams remained
unbeaten on the season at 10-0. She started the weekend on Saturday
with a goal and two assists in a 5-1 win at Bates, followed by
scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to go along with an
assist for a 4-3 victory at Colby on Sunday. McGowan leads the
NESCAC in points this season with 27 (8-11-27), averaging a
league-best 2.70 points per game.

Burgess LePage, Bowdoin
(Senior, Forward - Cumberland, Maine)
LePage led her squad to a pair of NESCAC victories over the
weekend, tallying a total of three goals against Amherst and
Middlebury. LePage rallied the Polar Bears from a two-goal deficit
against the Jeffs on Saturday, scoring Bowdoin’s first goal
and the overtime game-winner for a 3-2 win. On Sunday, LePage got
things going for her team with the Polar Bears’ first goal
during a 3-2 win over the Panthers. She is currently tied for the
team lead with six goals this season.

Marisa Shutte, Trinity
(Junior, Forward - Allentown, Pa.)
Shutte provided the bulk of the Bantam offensive attack last week,
scoring five of Trinity’s eight goals over two victories,
netting both game-winners in the process. On Tuesday against
Westfield St., Shutte scored the lone goal of the first half before
adding two more in the second to complete a hat trick en route to a
5-0 victory. She followed up the feat with both of Trinity’s
goals during a 2-1 overtime victory over NESCAC foe Colby on
Saturday.

Adrienne Shea, Wesleyan
(Junior, Forward - Andover, Mass.)
Shea scored four goals last week, including two game-winners,
during the Cardinals’ 2-0 week. On Thursday against Babson,
Shea netted a hat trick in Wesleyan’s 4-1 win. She followed
the feat by scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over NESCAC
rival Trinity on Saturday afternoon.

three assists in a 2-0 week for the Ephs. McGowan opened the week
with three goals and two assists on Tuesday against Union during a
7-0 victory be-fore netting a goal and an assist on Saturday during
a 3-0 victory over Connecticut College. She currently leads the
team with six goals and three assists.

Marlee Kutcher, Tufts
(Sophomore, Defender - Chevy Chase, Md.)
Kutcher scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an
assist to lead Tufts to a 4-1 season-opening victory over Colby.
Kutcher tallied both goals off penalty corners, tying the game at
one early in the first half before putting the Jumbos ahead for
good midway through the second. The two goals were the first of her
collegiate career, after appearing in only nine games as a rookie
last season.
