Bowdoin Posts 2-0 Victory Over Connecticut College in Field Hockey Quarterfinals

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The second-seeded Bowdoin College field hockey team scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 win over seventh-seeded Connecticut College in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Sunday. The Polar Bears (14-1) advance to the NESCAC Semifinals for the sixth consecutive season and will face Amherst next Saturday. The Camels end their season with a record of 7-8.
The Polar Bears will face Amherst, who they defeated 4-3 in their season-opener on September 11, in a semifinal game at top-seeded Tufts University on Saturday. Tufts will play sixth-seeded Trinity in the other semifinal contest.
Bowdoin got on the board in the 32nd minute of Sunday's game, when Ingrid Oelschlager found Kassey Matoin in front of the Camel cage. Matoin knocked home the ball after a brief scramble to give the hosts a 1-0 lead into intermission. Bowdoin took advantage of a Conn. College penalty in the circle early in the second half and Katie Herter knocked home a penalty stroke to make it 2-0 Polar Bears.
Conn. College goaltender Aimee Rich stood tall in net, making 13 saves for the visitors. Emily Neilson stopped four shots in the victory for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears held a 23-6 edge in shots and owned a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners.
