HADLEY, Mass. The 2009-10 season came to a close for both Bowdoin and Middlebury in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday evening to a pair of SUNYAC foes. The Polar Bears fell at Oswego St. by a 9-2 score, while the Panthers suffered a 3-2 overtime defeat to Plattsburgh St.

Oswego St. Rolls Past Bowdoin in NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
OSWEGO, N.Y. The Oswego State University mens ice hockey team scored five times in the second period to pull away from Bowdoin in a 9-2 NCAA quarterfinal win on Saturday night. The Polar Bears finish a stellar campaign with a record of 19-7-1 and their third NCAA Championship appearance. The Lakers (26-2-0) advance to Division III semifinals next Friday in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Plattsburgh St. Tips Middlebury 3-2 in Overtime in NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Jared Docking put home his own rebound after a shot from Kyle Taylor had been saved, lifting Plattsburgh to a 3-2 overtime victory in an NCAA Quarterfinal game. The goal was the third of the year for Docking, coming just 3:19 into the extra session. The Cardinals improve to 19-5-4 and will meet Norwich in the semifinals next Friday at Lake Placid. The Panthers end their nine-game winning streak, finishing the season with a 19-5-4 mark. The game was played before a sellout crowd of 2,600 at Middleburys Kenyon Arena.

HADLEY, Mass. Middlebury senior forward Charlie Townsend (Pennington, N.J.) has been selected as the NESCAC Player of the Week for March 8, 2010. Townsend broke a 2-2 tie on Sunday during the final of the 2010 NESCAC Mens Ice Hockey Championship by scoring the game-winner with just 1:42 remaining to lift the Panthers to a 3-2 victory over Bowdoin. He also assisted on the games first goal during Saturdays 4-2 win against Trinity.

Late Goal Gives Middlebury NESCAC Men's Ice Hockey Championship
BRUNSWICK, Maine Middlebury senior captain Charlie Townsend scored the game-winning goal with 1:42 remaining in the third period to give the Panthers their eighth NESCAC Mens Ice Hockey Championship, 3-2, over Bowdoin on Sunday at Sidney J. Watson Arena. With their fourth win over the Polar Bears in the title game, the Panthers (19-4-4) earn the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
