NESCAC Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Selections Released
Middlebury's Dunn Named 2002 Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior midfielder Matt Dunn of Middlebury was named the 2002 NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. Dunn, a repeat selection on the first team, leads the conference in scoring with 40 goals and 26 assists for 66 points entering the NCAA Division III tournament.
Three Middlebury players joined Dunn on the first team with senior attacks Dave Seeley and Zach Herbert, and senior defender Sebby Astrada earning first-team accolades. Hebert (39 goals, 23 assists) and Seeley (33 goals, 19 assists) enter the NCAA tournament as the second and third leading scorers, respectively, in the conference. Astrada was the top defender for the conference champions.
Two players from NESCAC runner-up Colby were named to the first team. Senior goalkeeper John Shea of Colby posted a 7.51 goals against average and .611 save percentage, and made 27 saves in the NESCAC title game. Senior defender Gabe Duncan-Roitman of the White Mules was the team’s top defender.
Junior long-stick midfielder Jamie Nichols of Bowdoin received first-team honors for the second consecutive year. He and junior defender Jordan Fay, who was named to the first team, were defensive leaders for the Polar Bears, who posted an 11-4 record and advanced to the semifinals of the NESCAC tournament. Senior midfielder Josh Allen of the Polar Bears also received first-team recognition after leading the team with 33 goals.
Senior attack Jack Sandler and senior midfielder Pat Gaughan of Bates received first-team recognition. Sandler was the team’s leading scorer, while Gaughan scored 24 goals, including two game-winning overtime scores.
Freshman attack Bryan Griffin of Tufts was named the 2002 NESCAC Rookie of the Year after leading the Jumbos in scoring. Rob Quinn, in his first year as Colby head coach was named the 2002 NESCAC Coach of the Year after leading the White Mules to the championship game of the NESCAC tournament.
