2011 Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week

May 9, 2011
Ryan Molloy, Tufts
(Senior, Attacker - Setauket, N.Y.)
Molloy led the Jumbos to their second consecutive NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship, scoring six goals and assisting on three others. During Saturday’s semifinal against Bowdoin, Molloy tallied the game-winner with 0.4 seconds left in the game in an 11-10 victory. He followed on Sunday with three goals and three assists against Middlebury, including the assist on the overtime winner in a 13-12 final.

Ben Chadwick, Bowdoin
(Senior, Midfielder - Needham, Mass.)
Chadwick posted 11 points over a pair of victories against the top two teams in the NESCAC standings, scoring four goals and assisting on seven others. On Friday evening against Tufts, Chadwick netted two goals and an assist in a 15-9 win. He followed on Sunday with six assists and two more tallies in a 14-9 victory at Amherst in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

Sam Jakimo, Amherst
(Junior, Goalkeeper - Woodbury, N.Y.)
Jakimo proved to be the difference-maker in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Wesleyan, as he made 18 saves (.900 save percentage) and held the Cardinals scoreless for the final 55:52. Jakimo stopped six shots in the second period and five each in the third and fourth quarter. The win was the first over Wesleyan since 1999 and improved the Jeffs’ win streak to 12.
   
Rob Nogueras, Trinity
(Sophomore, Attacker - Parkland, Fla.)
Nogueras had seven goals, two assists, and five ground balls during a 2-0 week for the Bantams, who secured a home quarterfinal contest in the upcoming NESCAC championship. After scoring five goals and an assist in Tuesday’s 18-12 win against Babson, Nogueras had two goals, including the game-winner in double-overtime, and an assist in Saturday’s 6-5 win at Bates.

Andrew Conner, Middlebury
(Senior, Midfielder - Alexandria, Va.)
Conner had eight goals and an assist in a 2-0 road week for the Panthers. He had five goals in Tuesday’s 11-10, double-overtime win at Skidmore, followed by three goals and an assist on Saturday in a 12-8 victory at Trinity. Saturday’s win kept Middlebury in the hunt for a home quarterfinal contest in the 2011 NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

Sam Jakimo, Amherst
(Junior, Goalkeeper - Woodbury, N.Y.)
Jakimo helped the Lord Jeffs keep pace atop the NESCAC standings with two key victories last week, posting a save percentage of .681 against conference foes. On Wednesday, Jakimo made 12 stops and scooped up six ground balls in a 9-7 win over Middlebury, Amherst’s first against the Panthers since 1989. Saturday afternoon, Jakimo made a career-best 20 saves and picked up four grounders in an 11-8 win at rival Williams. Seven of his 20 stops came in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Deane, Middlebury
(Senior, Goalkeeper - Grosse Point, Mich.)
Deane recorded a .703 save percentage and a 5.50 goals against average during a 2-0 week for the Panthers. On Tuesday evening, Deane made nine saves in a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Washington & Lee, as Deane held the Generals scoreless in the second half with four saves. He followed on Saturday with 17 stops in an 11-6 decision over Colby.

Devin Acton, Amherst
(Freshman, Attacker - Sudbury, Mass.)
Acton tallied nine goals, assisted on two others, and scooped up seven ground balls during a 2-0 week for the Lord Jeffs, who extended their winning streak to five games. After netting four goals and an assist in Tuesday’s 12-7 win over Eastern Conn. St., Acton scored five times and assisted on a sixth goal in Saturday’s 13-10 win at Bowdoin.
   

Steve Foglietta, Tufts
(Junior, Goalkeeper - Oceanside, N.Y.)
Foglietta earned a .683 save percentage during a 2-0 week for the Jumbos, making 41 saves over both outings. He proved to be the difference on Wednesday evening at Stevenson, stopping 24 shots in a 14-13 win. Foglietta followed on Saturday afternoon with 17 saves for a .739 save percentage in a 12-6 victory at Williams.

David Hild, Middlebury
(Senior, Attacker - West Hartford, Conn.)
Hild collected nine goals and dished out two assists as he had a hand in over half of his team’s scoring during a 1-1 week for the Panthers. Hild opened the week with five goals and an assist in a 13-9 win over Springfield on Wednesday. He followed on Saturday in a 9-8 overtime loss at Wesleyan with four goals and an assist. Hild also scooped up four ground balls over the two games.
   

Evan Cohen, Williams
(Junior, Goalkeeper - Syosset, N.Y.)
Cohen was key for the Ephs in a defensive struggle at Bates on Saturday as he recorded 14 saves in a 6-5 victory, Williams’ first win of the season. Half of Cohen’s 14 stops came during the fourth quarter, including two saves in the final minute of the game to preserve the Ephs’ one-goal lead. His save percentage for the game was .736.

Sean Kirwan, Tufts
(Junior, Attacker - Boonton Township, N.J.)
Kirwan tallied six times to help the defending NESCAC and NCAA champion Jumbos open the 2011 slate with a 13-9 victory over Amherst. His first two goals of the game extended a 5-3 Tufts advantage to 7-3 in the second quarter. Kirwan then scored three consecutive goals late in the third to put the game out of reach for Amherst.
