Middlebury's Andrew Thomson and Andrew Lee Reach NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Semifinals

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Middlebury tandem of Andrew Thomson and Andrew Lee have reached the semifinals of the 2010 NCAA Men's Tennis doubles tournament. The Panther duo, seeded first in this year's championship, posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Cyrus Jadun and Pat Boyd of Kalamazoo in Saturday's quarterfinals. In the singles tournament, all four players from NESCAC teams fell on Saturday.

Thomson and Lee will face Bobby Cocanaugher and Cory Kowal from Trinity (Tex.) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The doubles championship will follow shortly afterward.

During Saturday's singles action, Lee, the NESCAC Player of the Year, downed Dillon Pottish from Emory in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, during the quarterfinals but fell to John Watts of Washington (Mo.) 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Junior teammate Andrew Peters could not get past Chris Goodwin of Emory in the round of eight, as Goodwin claimed a 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 victory.

Amherst's Austin Chafetz needed three sets to get by Bowdoin's Stephen Sullivan in the quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Chafetz was not so fortunate in the semifinals as he came up on the short end of a three-set decision to Goodwin from Emory, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
