Seven Singles, Three Doubles Teams to Compete in NCAA Men's Tennis Individual Championships

OBERLIN, Ohio – Seven singles players and three doubles teams from NESCAC squads will compete for a shot to be called national champions this weekend at the NCAA Men's Tennis individual tournament held on the campus of Oberlin. Brackets for the 32-player singles and 16-team doubles championships were announced today. The championships run through Sunday, May 30.
From the 2010 NESCAC and NCAA Men's Tennis Champion Middlebury College Panthers are Andrew Lee and Andrew Peters. Both players were named to the All-NESCAC First Team eariler this month, and Lee was chosen by the conference coaches as NESCAC Player of the Year. Lee will partner with Andrew Thomson, who also earned All-NESCAC First Team plaudits, in the doubles tournament. The duo are the top-seeded tandem in this year's championship.
Representing the Lord Jeffs at this year's individual tournament will be sophomore Austin Chafetz and freshman Mark Kahan. A First Team All-Conference honoree, Chafetz is seeded second overall in the 32-player field. Chafetz will partner with Robert Sorrel in the doubles championship. Amherst came in second to Middlebury for the NCAA men's title on Thursday afternoon.
Three-time All-NESCAC First Team member Stephen Sullivan of Bowdoin returns this year. The junior will be making his third consecutive appearance in the NCAA singles championship.
Trinity senior Spencer Feldman will compete in the individual tournament one final time this weekend. Feldman will also team up with sophomore Anson McCook on the doubles side. The two received All-NESCAC First Team Doubles honors this season.
Last year, Bates' pair of Ben Stein and Amrit Rupasinghe defeated rival Bowdoin's duo Jamie Neely and Oscar Pena 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 for the NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Championship. Stein was also the national runner-up in the individual championship.
