CLAREMONT, Calif. – The day after falling to Amherst in the NCAA Semifinals, the Williams College men’s tennis team fell to Washington University of St. Louis by a score of 5-0 in the NCAA tournament’s third place match.  With the loss, the Ephs finish the 2011 campaign at 17-9.

While the Ephs were unable to take a single match from the Bears, they were particularly close in doubles play. Matt Micheli and Bryan Chow, the first doubles pairing, dropped a tight match to Isaac Stein and Max Woods, 9-7. Coming even closer to victory for the Ephs was the junior pairing of Kevin Shallcross and Will Petrie at third doubles. They fell to Adam Putterman and Gary Parizher, 9-8. Shallcross and Petrie were the only Ephs to come out victorious against Amherst in Wednesday's match.

In singles play, Wash. U captured wins at the five and six positions to seal the win. While their matches were unfinished, Zach Weiss and Felix Sun were in the midst of tightly contested matches, as was Trey Meyer who had moved into the third set with the Bears' Adam Pudderman.

While the Ephs would have liked to end the season on a better note, Coach Dan Greenberg was still very proud of his team. "Surely, this wasn't the way we wanted to end the year, but I still feel like this was a great year for us and I know our guys left everything they had on the court. We return all players for next year so I couldn't be more excited to learn from this experience," commented Greenberg.
