HADLEY, Mass. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced recently its Pocock All-America team for the 2010 season. The CRCA All-America squad, which recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions, had five individuals from the NESCAC among the honorees. In addition, Williams head coach Justin Moore was selected as the national coach of the year.
Members of the CRCA All-America First Team included Ardath Dixon of Trinity, Williams' Julia Haltermann, and Rebecca Waldo from Bates, all of whom were honored on the All-NESCAC First Team this season. Waldo was on the All-America Second Team a year ago.
The two NESCAC student-athletes on the second team were Rebecca Schofield of Wesleyan and the Ephs' Kate Shaper, as the duo joined the three others on the All-Conference First Team in 2010.
For the fifth consecutive year and sixth time in program history, the Williams women’s rowing squad captured the NCAA Rowing Championship, taking both the team title and the varsity eight title for the second consecutive year. Both the Ephs' 1V and 2V boats qualified for the Grand Final and neither disappointed in the final, with the 1V winning the race with a time of 6:43.81 and the 2V placing third with a time of 6:49.02. Bates was second, while Trinity was fourth.
Completing his 11th year at the helm of the women's team at Williams, Justin Moore guided his team to a fifth consecutive first place team finish at the NCAA Rowing Championship in Sacramento, Calif. this past May. It is the fourth time in the last five years (2006, 2008-09) that Moore has claimed the CRCA's coaching honor, and the fifth time in his career after he earned the award in 2000. Moore was also named the NESCAC Women's Rowing Coach of the Year earlier this spring.
