2008-09 Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week

February 9, 2009
Max Goldstein, Bowdoin
(Senior - Santa Monica, Calif.)
Goldstein earned three individual victories in the Polar Bears’ win over Colby on Saturday. Goldstein took the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.8), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.7) and the 400-yard IM (4:16.4).
   
Katelyn Drake, Bates
(Junior - Hudson, Ohio)
Drake posted a new program and pool record in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 57.68 against Connecticut College and Wellesley over the weekend. She also won the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.5) and the 100-yard backstroke (58.3). Drake anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team, turning in a leg of 24.2.

Ryan Lichtenfels, Amherst
(Freshman - McLean, Va.)
Lichtenfels set two pool records for the Lord Jeffs in a meet with MIT on Sunday. Lichtenfels won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:37.58, shattering a 20-year-old Pratt Pool record, and also took the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:34.60. He also finished second in the 200-yard IM, just one second behind the winner with a time of 1:58.51.
   
Emily McDonald, Middlebury
(Sophomore - Glenwood Springs, Colo.)
McDonald posted victories in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events in a meet against Williams over the weekend. Her times were 24.58 and 53.12, respectively. McDonald was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.

Grant Moryan, Connecticut College
(Junior - Westfield, N.J.)
Moryan won three individual events and was part of the winning relay squad (400-yard freestyle) for the Camels in a meet against Wesleyan and Colby-Sawyer over the weekend. He claimed the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events.
   
Dave Wilkinson, Wesleyan
(Senior - Rowayton, Conn.)
Wilkinson beat out the competition in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives during a meet against Connecticut College and Colby-Sawyer. Wilkinson’s scores were 456.52 for the 1-meter and 520.65 for the 3-meter, both program records.
   
Kendra Stern, Amherst
(Sophomore - Albuquerque, N.M.)
Stern set three pool records in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.92), the 100-yard butterfly (57.29), and the 800-yard freestyle relay, which finished in 7:49.35.
   
Kelsey Potdevin, Colby
(Senior - Juneau, Alaska)
Potdevin won three individual races and led off the winning 200-yard medley relay as she set four pool records in a meet against Bates on Saturday. Potdevin won the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard backstoke individual events.

Kevin O’Rourke, Middlebury
(Senior - Chagrin Falls, Ohio)
O’Rourke won three individual events and anchored the winning 400-yard medley relay against Hamilton last week. He took the 100-yard freestyle (47.65), the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.85), and the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.72).
   
Adam Eramo, Trinity
(Freshman - Rowley, Mass.)
Eramo came away with first place in the 500-yard (4:59.31) and the 1,650-yard freestyle, posting a season-best time of 17:08.12 during Saturday’s meet against Connecticut College and Wheaton. Eramo also took first in the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle against Vassar on Tuesday.
   
Whitney Rosenbaum, Hamilton
(Junior - Alford, Mass.)
Rosenbaum won both butterfly events during a dual meet against Middlebury on Saturday. She earned a time of 1:01.35 in the 100-yard butterfly and 2:13.33 in the 200-yard butterfly. Rosenbaum also posted a split time of 1:00.06 in the 400-yard medley relay.
   
Lindsay Gardel, Tufts
(Junior - Wayland, Mass.)
Gardel came away with the highest score in the 1-meter (255.55) and 3-meter (250.05) dive competitions during a meet with Wesleyan and Williams on Saturday.

Christian Witzke, Amherst
(Senior - Jacksonville, Fla.)
Witzke helped the Lord Jeffs earn their first victory over Williams (133-108) since 2004, winning two individual events while also leading off the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. Witzke took the 50-yard freestyle in 21.35 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:39.48. He finished his leg of the 400-yard freestyle in 46.95.
   
Erin Altenburger, Williams
(Sophomore - Mendham, N.J.)
Altenburger won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams for the Ephs, as they went on to down Amherst in a dual meet on Saturday. Altenburger posted a time of 58.75 in the 100-yard backstroke and 5:05.30 in the 500-yard freestyle. She also had split times of 27.76 in the 200-yard medley relay and 53.38 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Nathan Mecray, Bowdoin
(Freshman - Cumberland, Maine)
Mecray won the 100-yard breaststroke at the MIT Invitational in a career-best time of 59.85. He also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (21.66) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (47.94), helping the Polar Bears finish fifth at the meet.
   
Logan Todhunter, Williams
(First Year - Ithaca, N.Y.)
In her first collegiate meet, Todhunter won both the 100-yard and the 200-yard butterfly events against Boston College and Fordham, completing the races in 56.05 and 2:02.77, respectively, for new Eph program records. Todhunter also swam the butterfly leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay for Williams.

Chris Vorlicek, Tufts
(Sophomore - Del Mar, Calif.)
Vorlicek won three events during a tri-meet against Connecticut College and Middlebury on Saturday to help the Jumbos surpass both teams. Vorlicek won the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:11.90, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.62, and the 400-yard IM in 4:17.66. On Sunday against Brandeis, Chris posted a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, winning the event in 4:56.96.
   
Megan Kono, Tufts
(Sophomore - La Grange, Ill.)
Kono won four of the six individual events she swam in over the weekend. Against Connecticut College and Middlebury on Saturday, Kono came away with the top time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.53) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.89). On Sunday against Brandeis, she won the 1650-yard freestyle (18:13.60) along with the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.41).
