Todhunter, Rosenbaum Claim Titles at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Williams junior Logan Todhunter and Hamilton first year Maggie Rosenbaum both won individual titles on day three of the 2011 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Among the NESCAC teams competing at the event, the Williams women's team remains in third overall with 301 points, while the Eph men's squad are sixth with 151 points, just four ahead of seventh place Amherst.
Todhunter started off the finals on day three with a win in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 1:57.61, just 0.15 seconds off the record-setting time she posted a year ago in the event. It was the third year in a row that Todhunter has taken the 200-yard fly.
In her first national meet, Rosenbaum claimed the second women's final of Friday evening with a time of 55.21 in 100-yard backstroke. During the morning preliminaries, Rosenbaum had the top time with a 54.79 showing.
Among other NESCAC performers at the event, Middlebury senior John Dillon finished as the runner-up in the men's 200-yard butterfly with a time 1:48.18. Dillon won the event last year. Junior Timothy Walsh of Connecticut College was second in the 100-yard backstroke, recording a time of 48.39.
In the lone relay event of the day, the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Williams women were the top NESCAC squad, coming in fourth at 7:26.48. The Amherst women were seventh in 7:30.41. On the men's side, the Lord Jeffs were second in 6:35.82, while the Ephs claimed sixth in 6:40.44.
Heading into the final day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, Williams holds third for the women's title followed by Amherst in ninth (97), Connecticut College in 12th (57), and Hamilton in 20th (38). Behind Williams and Amherst in the pursuit of the men's crown, Middlebury is 10th (101), Tufts is 21st (28), and Connecticut College is in a three-way tie for 24th (17).
