2006-07 NESCAC Women's Basketball Players of the Week
February 26, 2007
Julia Loonin, Bowdoin
(Senior, Guard - New York, N.Y.)
Loonin proved to be the key in the Polar Bears' 2007 NESCAC
Championship win, their seventh NESCAC Women's Basketball title. On
Saturday against Williams, Loonin was the spark to a second-half
run, hitting a trio of three-pointers and finishing with 12 points.
She closed the weekend on Sunday with 13 points against Tufts,
including eight points during a crucial second half run for
Bowdoin. Over the two games, Loonin averaged 12.5 points and went
5-for-8 from behind the arc (.625) for the Polar Bears.

Laura Jasinski, Tufts
(Senior, Forward - Leverett, Mass.)
Jasinski scored 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting along with grabbing
nine rebounds and four steals to lead Tufts to a quarterfinal win
over Middlebury, the first in six tournament appearances for the
Jumbos. Jasinski's five points during a 7-0 run in the second half
expanded a 42-38 Tufts lead to 11 points with 10:10 remaining en
route to a 65-50 victory.

Meghan O'Malley, Williams
(Senior, Forward - Topsfield, Mass.)
O'Malley posted double-doubles during both Eph victories over the
weekend, averaging 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds. On Friday night
against Connecticut College, O'Malley scored 20 points on 8-for-11
shooting (.727) and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 64-50 win. She
followed up the performance on Saturday against Wesleyan with 16
points and 10 rebounds while dishing out four assists and blocking
three shots. For the week, O'Malley went 13-for-19 from the floor
(.684) and 9-for-11 (.818) from the line.

Valerie Krah, Tufts
(Senior, Guard - Mountain Lakes, N.J.)
Krah averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds during a
pair of NESCAC victories over the weekend to help improve the
Jumbos' best-ever start in conference play to 7-0. On Friday
evening against Middlebury, Krah became Tufts' all-time leader in
three-point baskets with a pair as she scored a game- and
season-high 21 points with seven boards and four assists. She led
her squad in scoring the following afternoon against Williams,
netting 18 points and dishing out seven assists. Krah currently has
131 career three-point baskets.

Jill Anelauskas, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, Forward - Medfield, Mass.)
Anelauskas averaged 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds during two road
victories for the Polar Bears over the weekend, connecting on
69.6-percent (16-for-23) of her shots. Anelauskas scored a
game-high 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting (.769) Friday evening at
Trinity before adding in 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting during
Saturday's win at Amherst. Over the past five games, Anelauskas has
averaged 18.2 points per game on 58.7-percent shooting to raise her
season average to 12.8 points through 20 outings.
January 22, 2007
Sarah Cox, Trinity
(Senior, Forward/Guard - Norwell, Mass.)
Cox led all scores during three games last week, averaging 24.0
points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals for Trinity. On
Tuesday, Cox scored 25 points while picking up six rebounds, five
assists and three steals in a win over Babson. She continued the
week with 18 points and seven rebounds against Williams on Friday
before earning a double-double on Saturday against Middlebury with
29 points and 10 boards. For the week, Cox was 50- percent from the
field (29-for-58) and 11-for-13 from the foul line. She is
currently second in the NESCAC in scoring with 17.2 points per
game.
January 15, 2007
Khalilah Ummah, Tufts
(Junior, Forward - Litchfield, Maine)
Ummah averaged 14.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting
53.6- percent (15-for-28) in a 2-1 week for Tufts that included a
pair of NESCAC victories at Amherst and Trinity. Ummah started the
week with 21 points and a team-high eight rebounds in a loss at
Emmanuel on Tuesday before netting eight points and grabbing 12
rebounds in a victory at Amherst on Friday. She closed out the week
with 13 points and eight rebounds at Trinity on Saturday afternoon.

Eileen Flaherty, Bowdoin
(Senior, Forward - Fairfield, Conn.)
Flaherty had an impressive week as she helped the Polar Bears
defeat a pair of unbeaten teams as part of a 3-0 week. Flaherty
earned MVP honors at the Springfield/Naismith Classic, averaging 17
points and 7 rebounds in wins over Union and previously-unbeaten
Norwich. She followed it up with a 23-point, nine-rebound effort in
a victory over Emmanuel. For the week, Flaherty averaged 18.7
points and 7.7 rebounds, going 21-for-22 (.955) from the free throw
line.
January 2, 2007
Val Beckwith, Bates
(Sophomore, Forward - Woburn, Mass.)
Beckwith scored a game-high 23 points in the Bobcats' win over host
Salem St. in the Salem St. Tournament on Saturday. Beckwith earned
All-Tournament Team honors as she averaged 20.0 points, 4.0
rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 65-percent (13-for-20) from
the field and 76.5-percent (13-for-17) from the line.
December 11, 2006
Stefanie Reiff, Amherst
(Junior, Forward - Hinsdale, Ill.)
Reiff led the Jeffs to two victories last week, as the team's
leading scorer averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists
per game, going 17-for-32 from the floor (.531). Reiff collected a
game-high 25 points and eight rebounds in a win over Clark on
Tues-day, followed by netting 18 points and dishing out eight
assists in a win at Skidmore on Saturday.
Khalilah Ummah, Tufts
(Junior, Forward - Litchfield, Maine)
During a 3-0 week for the Jumbos that included a victory at
nationally-ranked Salem St. on Tuesday, Ummah led her squad with
14.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while playing an average 18.7
minutes as a reserve. At Salem St., Ummah picked up a double-double
with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds along with three blocks.
She led her team in scoring against Simmons on Thursday (16) and
Wellesley on Saturday (15), finishing the week an impressive
16-for-22 from the floor (.727).
December 4, 2006
Meghan Stetson, Williams
(Senior, Guard - Clinton, N.Y.)
Stetson averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0
week for the Ephs, leading her squad in scoring during both games.
During Tuesday's win over Rensselaer, Stetson scored 18 points
while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds and collecting two
assists. On Thursday at Union, Stetson poured in 19 points and
dished out six assists while hauling down four rebounds. She was
13-for-27 (.481) from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free
throw line on the week.

Flaherty had an impressive week as she helped her squad to a 3-0
week. She averaged 20.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per
game while connecting on 65.6 percent (21-for-32) of her shots.
Over the weekend, Flaherty scored 26 points against William
Paterson and 22 points against Montclair St. to earn MVP honors at
the Red Hawk/Pioneer Classic in New Jersey.
November 20, 2006
Emily Johnson, Middlebury
(Sophomore, Guard - Lower Gwynedd, Pa.)
Johnson played a big role in the Panthers picking up two wins at
the Amherst Tournament over the weekend, averaging 22.5 points and
3.5 rebounds over the two outings. Johnson opened the weekend on
Saturday with 20 points in a win over Piedmont before scoring a
career-high 25 in a victory over UMass Dartmouth on Sunday.
Johnson, who was named the Tournament MVP, shot 66.7 percent from
the floor, 71.4 percent from behind the arc and 88.9 from the free
throw line.
