NESCAC Institutions Support Breast Cancer Awareness with "Think Pink" Initiative

HADLEY, Mass. - NESCAC member institutions have teamed up with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in support of breast cancer awareness by participating in the WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative. Beginning this weekend, a variety of NESCAC teams will participate in the program, which runs through Feb. 17.
The WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year of the WBCA's "Think Pink" a success.
The Williams Women's Basketball team will be selling "Think Pink" T-shirts for $10 beginning Wednesday, Feb. 6 in the Paresky Center and at games Friday night against Bates and Saturday afternoon versus Tufts. Fans attending those games this weekend are encouraged to wear pink in some manner to show their support for the cause. Donations will also be accepted.
At Trinity on Saturday, Feb. 9, the women's basketball team will be promoting "Think Pink" by wearing pink warm-up t-shirts for the Bantams game against Connecticut College. In addition, representatives from the American Cancer Society will be at the game to promote breast cancer awareness and to hand out pink t-shirts. Both the Trinity and Connecticut College coaching staffs will be wearing pink.
The Colby women's basketball team will participate in "Think Pink" by wearing pink shoelaces starting Friday, Feb. 8 and running through Saturday, Feb. 17. Members of the Mules' coaching staff will also be wearing pink attire.
At Hamilton on Saturday, Feb. 9, the women's basketball team will participate in "Think Pink" by asking all fans to wear pink to the Continentals' home basketball game. Coaches will wear pink ribbons, game programs shall be printed on pink paper, and statistics on breast cancer will be announced throughout the game to raise awareness. Additionally, Hamilton administrators shall wear vests adorned with pink ribbons and fans can make donations to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund for one of the ribbons.
Connecticut College recently held a “Think Pink” night during its annual meeting with the Coast Guard on Tuesday, Feb. 5.The Camels and Bears wore pink warm up t-shirts and pink shoelaces for the game.
