2010-11 Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Jaci Daigneault, Amherst
(Senior, Forward - Guilford, Conn.)
Daigneault averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as she helped her Lord Jeffs earn their third NESCAC Women’s Basketball Championship in the past four years over the weekend with wins over Williams and Bowdoin. She made 12-of-18 shots from the floor (.667), including an impressive 8-for-11 showing in Sunday’s 72-37 championship victory over the Polar Bears, scoring 19 points. Daigneault had a double-double with 10 points and rebounds in Saturday’s 71-64 decision over the Ephs.

Rachael Mack, Colby
(Junior, Forward - Augusta, Maine)
Mack recorded her seventh double-double of the season with a game- and career-high 26 points along with 12 rebounds, seven on the offensive glass, to help the Mules post a 67-64, come-from-behind victory over Middlebury in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NESCAC Women’s Basketball Championship on Saturday. Mack hit 6-of-12 from the floor and 14-of-16 (.875) from the foul line. She also chipped in two assists, a block, and a steal.

Jaci Daigneault, Amherst
(Senior, Forward - Guilford, Conn.)
Daigneault averaged a double-double with 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds on 16-of-29 shooting (.552) to help the Lord Jeffs wrap up a perfect showing in conference play and the top seed in the NESCAC championship. On Friday in a 63-43 victory at Middlebury, Daigneault posted 21 points and nine rebounds. She followed on Saturday with 16 points and 12 rebounds, eight on the defensive glass, in a 66-55 decision at rival Williams.
   
Collier Clegg, Tufts
(Sophomore, G/F - Evanston, Ill.)
Clegg had 22.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during a 2-0 week for the Jumbos. She made 14-of-33 from the floor (.424), 10-of-17 from three-point range (.588), and 6-of-8 from the foul line. During Thursday’s 70-39 victory at Worcester St., Clegg scored the most points by a Jumbo this season with 26. Saturday afternoon against Bates, Clegg had a game-high 18 points in a 67-53 win. For the week, Clegg also contributed five steals, two assists, and a block.

Caroline Stedman, Amherst
(Junior, Guard - Walpole, Mass.)
Stedman was the leading scorer for Amherst during a 2-0 weekend, averaging 22.5 points per game along with 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks. On Friday in a 73-35 decision over Tufts, Stedman had a game-high 19 points, hitting 7-of-11 from the floor and 5-for-5 from three-point range. Saturday afternoon against Bates, Stedman matched her career high with a game-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting, as 17 of her 26 points came in the second half to help Amherst pull away for a 74-62 win.

Vanessa Miller, Tufts
(Senior, Guard - Cincinnati, Ohio)
Miller stepped up for the Jumbos at a key time, averaging 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.0 steals, and 4.0 assists per game during a 3-0 week. Prior to last week’s performance, Miller had averaged just 3.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game this season in eight appearances. She finished the week shooting 17-for-29 from the floor (.586), 8-for-14 from three-point range (.571), and 5-for-6 from the line (.833). At Emmanuel on Tuesday evening, Miller had her first double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while dishing the ball five times and securing seven steals.

Chessie Jackson, Williams
(Senior, Guard/Forward - Goleta, Calif.)
Jackson averaged 30.0 points per game, hitting 22-of-37 shots from the floor (.595) and 11-of-20 from three-point range during a 2-0 weekend for the Ephs. On Friday evening against Connecticut College, Jackson matched her career high with 29 points and added in five rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and three steals in a 72-47 victory, going 6-for-12 from long range. Saturday afternoon, Jackson outscored Wesleyan in the first half 29-22 en route to a career-best 31 points on 12-of-17 shooting (.706) and seven rebounds in 25 minutes of work as the Ephs won 82-48.

Daigneault averaged 14.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game during a 2-1 week for the Lord Jeffs. She hit 19-of-26 attempts from the floor (.731) and made 4-of-5 three-point shots while also adding in six blocks, five steals, and three assists. During Tuesday’s 85-82 overtime setback at Kean, Daigneault posted a double-double, scoring 22 points on 10-of-11 shooting and grabbing 10 boards. Daigneault also went over 1,000 career points last week and moved into ninth on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,034 points.

Tara Gabelman, Connecticut College
(First Year, Forward - Irvington, N.Y.)
Gabelman played a key role in the Camels’ 3-0 week with three double-doubles, averaging 16.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. Gabelman led her squad to the title of the New York University Classic on Tuesday with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 71-70 overtime win over the hosts. She garnered All-Tournament Team honors, averaging 17.0 points and 12.5 rebounds at the Classic. Gabelman added 20 points and 11 rebounds on Thursday against Eastern Nazarene, a 65-60 victory, and closed the week with 16 points and 15 rebounds in a 61-40 decision over Johnson & Wales on Saturday, her sixth consecutive double-double and eighth of the season.

Jil Vaughan, Colby
(Junior, Forward - Wareham, Mass.)
Vaughan earned Most Outstanding Performer honors at the ECAC Holiday Classic in Florida last week, averaging 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while hitting 15-of-23 from the floor (.652). On Saturday against Salem St., Vaughan made 10-of-12 from the field (.833) for 20 points and grabbed seven boards in a 98-66 victory. She followed on Sunday with 13 points and seven more rebounds in just 18 minutes of a 64-37 win against Castleton. It is the second-straight year that Vaughan has been named Most Outstanding Performer at the ECAC Holiday Classic.

Daigneault led the Lord Jeffs in points (16.3) and rebounds (6.3) per game during a 3-0 week, hitting 23-of-33 shots from the floor (.697) while averaging 25 minutes. During a 75-62 win at Emmanuel on Tuesday, Daigneault scored a team-high 22 points, 20 of which came in the second half to lead Amherst back from a 32-30 halftime deficit. She made 10-of-15 attempts from the field in the win.
   

Chessie Jackson, Williams
(Senior, Forward - Goleta, Calif.)
Jackson scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Ephs’ only game last week, a 67-48 victory at Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. She also had four steals, two blocks, and an assist in the win. Jackson made 9-of-14 shots from the floor (.642) and hit 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc (.667). The win moved Williams to 8-0 to start the season.

Maddie Moreau, Middlebury
(Junior, Guard - Canton, N.Y.)
Moreau averaged 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 14-for-27 from the floor (.519), 4-for-6 from three point range (.667), and 8-for-11 from the foul line in a 2-0 week. In Tuesday’s 73-62 win at Castleton, Moreau scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting as she hit 3-of-4 three-pointers. She dropped another 20 points in a 65-57 win at Union on Saturday, adding in three boards, two assists and two steals.
   

Colleen Hart, Tufts
(Senior, Guard - Needham, Mass.)
Hart contributed 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Jumbos. Seven of her 14 made field goals last week came from three point range, as she went 7-for-14 from beyond the arc. Hart had a game-high 23 points in Tuesday’s 59-49 win at Salem St., then posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s 70-36 victory over Colby-Sawyer. She also had five assists, four steals, and a block last week.

Katie Bergeron, Bowdoin
(Senior, Guard - Bradley, Maine)
Bergeron hit 8-of-10 attempts from the floor, going a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range, for a game-high 21 points in the Polar Bears’ 82-55 victory at the University of New England on Tuesday evening. She also hit both of her free throw shots. In addition to the 21 points, Bergeron grabbed five rebounds, recorded five steals, and earned four assists to just two turnovers in 29 minutes of work.

Lauren Sanchez, Middlebury
(Senior, Guard - Seattle, Wash.)
Sanchez claimed MVP honors at the Brockport State Tournament as she led the Panthers to the title with victories against Nazareth and host Brockport State. Sanchez averaged 23.5 points over the two contests with a 12-for-21 performance from the field (.571) and a 23-for-26 showing at the free throw line (.885). On Friday night, Sanchez dropped a career-high 30 points, going 9-for-13 from the floor (.692) and 12-for-14 from the free throw line (.857) in an 81-71 victory over Nazareth. She followed on Saturday with a game-high 17 points in a 63-47 victory at Brockport State. Sanchez also chipped in four assists and five steals over the weekend.
