2006-07 NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey Players of the Week

March 5, 2007
Krystyn Elek, Amherst
(First Year, Goaltender - Summerville, S.C.)
Elek led the Jeffs to a pair of victories over the weekend en route to the NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey Championship, the first NESCAC crown for Amherst. On Saturday against Bowdoin, Elek turned aside 30 shots in a 3-2 overtime win over the Polar Bears. She followed the performance on Sunday by backstopping Amherst with a tournament-record 65 saves in a 2-1 triple overtime victory over Middlebury. Elek, the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, is 14-4-3 this season with a 1.60 goals against average and a .940 save percentage.

Kate Dennett, Amherst
(First Year, Forward - Highland Ranch, Colo.)
Dennett netted the game-winning goal in overtime after collecting an assist on the game's first goal as the Jeffs advanced to the semifinals of the NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey Championship for the first time with a 3-2 win over Williams on Saturday.

Lauren Tomford, Hamilton
(First Year, Forward - Avon, Conn.)
Tomford tallied the game-winning goal in overtime and assisted on another as Hamilton earned a 4-3 victory over Colby on Saturday to move into the semifinals of the 2007 NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey Championship. Tomford has five game-winners this season and leads all league rookies with 27 points.

Anna Condino, Williams
(Senior, Forward - Lexington, Mass.)
Condino netted five points during a 2-0-0 final weekend of the regular season for the Ephs. Friday evening against Hamilton, Condino picked up a goal and an assist in the third period during an 8-2 win. She capped the regular season on Saturday with two goals and an assist on a third in a 5-2 victory over Trinity. Condino leads Williams in goals this season with 14 and is second among her teammates with 27 points through 24 games.

Amanda Comeau, Colby
(Sophomore, Forward - Southbury, Conn.)
Comeau tallied five goals and an assist during a 2-1 week for the Mules. Against NESCAC rival Bowdoin on Wednesday, Comeau potted four goals, including the game-tying goal with 3:16 remaining in regulation and the game-winner in overtime in a 6-5 victory. She closed the week with a goal and an assist at Southern Me. on Sunday. Comeau leads her team with 13 goals this season.

Lauren Tomford, Hamilton
(First Year, Forward - Avon, Conn.)
Tomford scored four goals and helped on two others in a 2-0-1 week for the Continentals. Tomford started the week with a goal and an assist in a 3-3 tie with nationally-ranked Utica on Tuesday, followed by the eventual game-winner along with an assist during a 5-4 win at Trinity on Friday. She closed the week with two goals in the third period in a come-from-behind win over the Bantams on Saturday.

Abby Kurtz-Phelan, Middlebury
(Senior, Forward - Denver, Colo.)
Kurtz-Phelan scored three goals and added two assists during a 2-0 week for the Panthers. She scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in a mid- week win over Williams, followed by a goal and an assist performance in a win against St. Anselm on Friday. Kurtz-Phelan leads Middlebury in goals this season with 10 through 12 appearances and is third among all skaters on her team with 18 points (10-8-18).

Annmarie Cellino, Middlebury
(Sophomore, Forward - West Seneca, N.Y.)
Cellino picked up three goals and two assists to lead Middlebury to key NESCAC victories over Bowdoin and Colby last weekend and extend the Panthers unbeaten streak to 15 games. With the Polar Bears holding an early 2-0 lead Friday evening, Cellino scored back-to-back goals to spark her team as the Panthers went on to win in overtime, 5-4. Saturday afternoon against Colby, Cellino tallied the eventual game-winner on the power- play and chipped in a pair of assists. She leads the team in scoring this season with 7-11-18.

Britney McKenna, Trinity
(First Year, Forward - Rye, N.H.)
McKenna had a hand in four of the Bantams' five goals during a 1-0-1 weekend against Southern Maine. Down 2-0 after the first period, McKenna put Trinity on the scoreboard with the Bantams' first goal midway through the second, then assisted on the game-winner late in the third in a 3-2 win. She closed out the weekend series on Saturday with a power- play goal and a shorthanded goal just over a minute apart in the third period in an eventual 2-2 tie. McKenna is third among Trinity skaters in scoring this season with 9-5-14.

January 15, 2007
Rachel Stemerman, Wesleyan
(Sophomore, Goaltender - Williamsville, N.Y.)
Stemerman stopped 85 shots while allowing only five goals for a .944 save percentage in a weekend series at Middlebury. On Friday, Stemerman turned aside 47 shots to help the Cardinals forge a 1-1 tie with Middlebury. She followed up the performance with 38 saves on Saturday afternoon, including 19 in a scoreless first period, in a 4-1 loss to the Panthers.

Elek did not allow a goal in 100 minutes of play between the pipes as the Jeffs picked up a pair of wins against Hamilton and Trinity over the weekend. On Friday against Hamilton, Elek made 24 saves in a 3-0 win before stopping 14 shots in 40 minutes of action on Saturday afternoon during a 4-0 win against Trinity. Elek has not allowed a goal in her last 10 periods of play.

Genevieve Triganne, Colby
(Junior, Goaltender - Pointe Claire, Que.)
Triganne gave her squad every opportunity to win last week, stopping 71 of 76 shots faced, a .934 save percentage, against a pair of teams with a combined record of 14-2-1. On Tuesday against undefeated St. Anselm, Triganne made 33 saves while allowing one goal. Friday afternoon at Bowdoin, Triganne turned aside 38 shots, including seven in overtime, during a 4-4 tie with NESCAC rival Bowdoin. Triganne is second in the league this season in save percentage (.925).

Kathryn Kroleski, Hamilton
(Sophomore, Forward - New Rochelle, N.Y.)
Kroleski scored three goals and assisted on another as the Continentals picked up a win and a tie in a weekend series at Wesleyan. Kroleski notched the game- winning goal 1:08 into overtime on Saturday to cap a two-goal, one assist performance in a 7-6 victory. On Friday, Kroleski scored Hamilton's first goal in a 2-2 tie.

Tarasai Karega, Amherst
(Sophomore, Forward - Detroit, Mich.)
Karega collected five points on two goals and three assists during a sweep of Wesleyan over the weekend. Karega assisted on each goal on Saturday in a 3-0 win over the Cardinals before scoring two goals, including the game-winner, on Sunday during a 5-1 victory for the Jeffs.

Meghan Gillis, Bowdoin
(Senior, Forward - Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia)
Gillis tallied three goals, two of which came via the power-play, and two assists during a pair of road victories for the Polar Bears last weekend. On Friday at Connecticut College, Gillis scored Bowdoin's first goal of the game in a 5-2 win before collecting two goals and two assists in an 8-5 decision at Amherst on Saturday, assisting on the game-winning goal.
