NESCAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Selections Announced
Middlebury’s Glessner Earns 2003 Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior attacker Char Glessner was chosen the 2003 NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Glessner, a three-time first team selection and 2000 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, led the league in points per game (5.77) and goals per game (3.85) while helping Middlebury to extend the team’s 48-game winning streak and win their third consecutive NESCAC Championship.
Glessner is joined on the first team by five Panther teammates. Juniors Nuala O’Donohue and Sarah Grenert are both repeat first-team selections. O’Donohue, a junior midfielder, was third on the team in scoring and Grenert, a goalkeeper for the Panthers, led the conference in save percentage and goals against average. Senior Kate Perine anchors a defense which led the nation in scoring defense allowing just 4.69 goals per game. Middlebury senior Kristin Hanley ranked third in the nation in assists with a conference-leading 3.08 assists per game.
Middlebury freshman Elizabeth Renehan earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors while Panthers head coach Missy Foote earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors for the third consecutive season.
Eight of the 12 first team honorees were repeat selections. Williams midfielders Kathryn Doherty and Molly Jennings were each honored as first-team selections for the second consecutive season. Jennings, the 2002 NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Year, led Williams in goals, caused turnovers and draw controls while ranking ninth in the league averaging 3.69 points per game. Doherty ranked among the conference leaders in both goals and assists this season.
Amherst’s Liz Martin and Abby Ouimet were also repeat first-team selections. Martin, a junior midfielder, led Amherst with 52 goals on the year while senior attacker Abby Ouimet ranked third in the league with 2.44 assists per game.
Defenders Rebecca Kiselewich of Williams, Becca Sullivan of Trinity College and Katie Trainor, a senior at Colby College, complete the first team selections.
NESCAC all-conference selections are determined in a vote by the conference coaches. Additional players honored on the first or second team are due to ties in the voting.
