2002 Women's Soccer Players of the Week

November 11, 2002
Jen Baldwin, Tufts
(Sophomore, Forward - Medway, Mass.)
Baldwin scored three goals in two games over the weekend as Tufts captured the NESCAC title with wins over Connecticut College and Williams. Baldwin scored the first goal unassisted for a 1-0 lead against Connecticut College, then after the Camels tied it and the game went to overtime, she was awarded a penalty kick in the 100th minute (second overtime) and converted to give Tufts the win. Again on Saturday in the final against Williams she earned a penalty kick and scored to give the Jumbos an early 2-0 lead. Tufts was the first team to score three goals on Williams this season.

November 4, 2002
Paige Diamond, Connecticut College
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Longmeadow, Mass.)
Diamond recorded 6 saves against Amherst, including two point blank stops in the second half, preserving the Camels NESCAC Conference first round victory Sunday. Diamond had four stops in 110 minutes of a 1-1 tie against Middlebury Saturday, helping her team secure the fifth seed for the tournament.

October 28, 2002
Christa Thoeresz, Connecticut College
(Sophomore, Midfielder - Portland, Ore.)
Thoeresz erupted for the game-winning score in the second overtime of a 3-2 victory against Bates College Saturday afternoon. Thoeresz assisted on the first two scores for the upstart Camels who posted their eighth win in the last 10 games.

Adrienne Showler, Amherst
(Sophomore, Midfielder - Ottawa, Ont.)
Showler, a sophomore midfielder, notched a hat-trick, including the game-winning goal, in Saturday's 4-0 win at Wesleyan.

October 14, 2002
Meg Bonney, Middlebury
(Senior, Forward - Norwich, Vt.)
Bonney scored four goals as the Panthers enjoyed a 2-0 week with two road wins. She tallied two goals at Lyndon State and then two more as Middlebury picked up a key road win at Williams. Bonney now leads the team and NESCAC with a dozen goals.

October 7, 2002
Cara Glassanos, Tufts
(Senior, Defender - Hingham, Mass.)
Glassanos headed in a corner kick just four minutes into the overtime session to help Tufts beat previously undefeated, #2 in New England and #13 in the nation Bowdoin. Glassanos anchored a defense that limited Bowdoin to five shots.

September 30, 2002
Anna Shapell, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Cape Elizabeth, Maine)
Bowdoin's sophomore netminder stopped all 13 shots she faced in back-to-back 3-0 NESCAC wins over Amherst and Middlebury. Shapell also played 45 minutes of scoreless soccer in 3-2 win at Plymouth State on Wednesday and has not allowed a goal in over 358 minutes of play.

September 23, 2002
Kendall Cox, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, Midfielder - Guilford, Conn.)
Cox scored the game-winner on a 30-yard direct kick to give Bowdoin a 1-0 victory over Williams on Saturday, their first win over the Ephs since 1992.

Leah Cumsky-Whitlock, Middlebury
(Senior, Forward - Newton, Mass.)
The senior forward tied her own school-record with four goals in a game in 7-2 win over Wesleyan and added a goal in 9-0 win over Norwich.

September 16, 2002
Jen Baldwin, Tufts
(Sophomore, Midfield - Medway, Mass.)
Baldwin scored the lone goal as Tufts opened its NESCAC season with a 1-0 victory at Amherst, the #2 ranked team in the nation and a national finalist last year. It was the first collegiate goal scored by Baldwin.
