Four NESCAC Women's Soccer Players Garner All-America Recognition from NSCAA
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Four NESCAC women's soccer players have been selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as All-Americans. Seniors Anjuli Demers (Dracut, Mass.) of Middlebury and Brianna Wolfson (Brookville, N.Y.) of Williams were chosen as members of the Second Team, while fellow Eph Kara Duggan (Poway, Calif.) along with Amherst's Meg Murphy (Springfield, Mass.) earned Third Team honors.
Demers received All-NESCAC First Team honors for the third year in a row this fall. Demers’ speed, technical ability, and leadership anchored a back line that recorded 11 shutouts (2nd NESCAC) and a goals against average of 0.77. She also scored her first career goal this season.
The 2009 NESCAC Player of the Year, Wolfson also garnered All-NESCAC First Team recognition for the third consecutive year. While Wolfson’s offensive production has been down from previous seasons due to injury, she still managed to score four goals and chip in eight assists through 19 appearances. The senior forward completed her tenure with the Ephs with 89 points on 30 goals - 11 of which have served as the game-winner - and 29 assists.
Duggan claimed All-Conference First Team accolades for the first time in her career this season after she was named to the Second Team in 2008. Duggan was a key element for an Ephs defense that surrendered nine goals while also scoring three of her own. Williams won the 2009 NESCAC Women's Soccer Championship, the third title in as many years for the Ephs.
Murphy, who earned All-America Second Team honors last year, achieved a rare feat by being selected to the All-NESCAC First Team for the fourth time in her career. The 2008 Player of the Year and the 2006 Rookie of the Year, Murphy finished atop the Jeffs’ stat sheet for the third consecutive season with five goals and six assists for 16 points.
