2001 Volleyball Players of the Week
November 5, 2001
Joyia Chadwick/Akilah Rogers,
Williams
(Freshman, MB - Lawrence, Kan./Sophomore, MB - Evanston, Ill.)
In three matches, Chadwick totaled 57 kills, 20 blocks, and 23
digs. Rogers added 15 blocks, 14 kills, 13 digs, and five service
aces. In the Ephs' championship win over Wesleyan, Rogers recorded
nine blocks and Chadwick finished with seven blocks and 21 kills as
Williams came back from a 2-1 deficit. Chadwick totaled 25 kills,
nine blocks, and 11 digs in the semifinal win over Amherst. Rogers
added five blocks and seven digs.

Robin Young, Williams
(Freshman, OH - Andover, Mass.)
Young led Williams to a 3-0 week, including the Little III title
with wins over Wesleyan (second ranked in the region) and Amherst
(fourth ranked). Young finished with 46 kills (.304 hitting
percentage), 44 digs, five service aces, and three blocks. In 198
serve receptions, she teamed with junior Carmel Lyons to pass at an
outstanding 2.4 accuracy rate. Young and Lyons combined for over 50
percent of the total offense for the week. Young recorded 22 kills
with just three errors and added 16 digs in the win over Amherst
that clinched the Little III title.

Joyia Chadwick, Williams
(Freshman, MB - Lawrence, Kan.)
Chadwick led Williams to a third-place finish in the Hall of Fame
Tournament with wins over the region's top two ranked teams,
Springfield and MIT. She earned all-tournament honors with 88 kills
in 16 games (5.5 per game), a .379 hitting percentage, 22 blocks,
35 digs, and 12 service aces.
Christina Fucci,
Wesleyan
(Senior, S - Tulsa, Okla.) Fucci earned all-tournament honors at
the Coast Guard Tournament. Fucci finished with 189 assists in 16
games (11.8 per game) with nine kills, 28 digs, 13 aces, and 11
blocks as Wesleyan won all four matches on the week to tie the team
record of 16 consecutive victories.

Laura Cox, Wesleyan
(Senior, OH - Lafayette, Calif.)
Cox led Wesleyan to the top seed in the NESCAC Volleyball
Tournament with 53 digs (4.8 per game), including 29 in a dramatic
five-game win over Amherst to give Wesleyan a 9-1 conference mark
and its 12th consecutive win. She added 16 kills, seven aces, and
two blocks. The Cardinals scored 42 points on her 62 serves (a
team-best 68 percent).

Eliza Allen, Wesleyan
(Junior, MH - Durango, Colo.)
Allen finished with 74 kills in 15 games (4.93 per game) as
Wesleyan won all five of its matches, including four NESCAC
victories to move into a tie for first place in the conference. She
hit .422 for the week while adding 16 aces and 17 blocks.
October 1, 2001
Eliza Allen, Wesleyan
(Junior, MH - Durango, Colo.)
Allen was named to the Wesleyan Invitational All-Tournament Team
and finished the week with 76 kills in 14 games, averaging 5.43 per
game while hitting .461. She added 20 blocks, seven service aces,
and 28 digs as the Cardinals won all three of their matches to
improve to 13-3.

Lauren Fennessey, Bates
(Senior, OH - Joplin, Mo.)
Fennessey led Bates to a 5-0 week, including the title at the
Bridgewater State Invitational where she earned Most Valuable
Player honors. She finished with 53 kills (3.53 per game), 65 digs
(4.33 per game), and 26 aces. She recorded 17 kills and 15 digs in
the title match against Bridgewater State, a rematch of last year's
NCAA Division III Championship first round match.

Chadwick finished a 4-0 week for Williams with 68 kills (4.5 per
game), 34 blocks (2.3 per game), 34 digs, and a .426 hitting
percentage. The Ephs won the Springfield Classic, posting a
four-game victory over host Springfield, the top-ranked team in the
region. Chadwick recorded 25 kills in a five-game win over
Rutgers-Newark.
September 17, 2001
Alexis Keeler, Wesleyan
(Senior, MH - Santa Monica, Calif.)
Keeler finished with 39 kills (3.9 per game) and a .400 hitting
percentage as Wesleyan posted three-game wins over Bates and
Bowdoin, and dropped a close match to Colby at the NESCAC Quad at
Bates. She added 12 aces, 30 digs, and 10 blocks in 10 games.
Robin Young,
Williams
(Freshamn, OH - Andover, Mass.)
Young finished with 54 kills (4.5 per game), 41 digs, and 10
blocks as Williams posted wins over Amherst and Middlebury, and
dropped a five-game match to Tufts at the NESCAC Quad at Amherst.
She recorded 23 kills against Middlebury, 18 kills vs. Tufts, and
13 kills vs. Amherst.

Joyia Chadwick, Williams
(Freshman, MB - Lawrence, Kan.)
Chadwick earned Most Valuable Player honors in the Western New
England College Tournament as Williams won all four of its matches
without dropping a game. She finished with 24 blocks (2.0 per
game), 33 kills, 25 digs, 10 aces, and a .367 hitting percentage.
