Amherst Hosts NESCAC Cross Country Championships This Weekend

HARTFORD, Conn. – Amherst College hosts the 2000 NESCAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 28. The Williams men’s team seeks its seventh consecutive conference championship, while the Middlebury women’s team attempts to win its third straight conference title.

The Middlebury women’s team enters the championship as the top-ranked team in the nation. Williams is ranked fifth, Hamilton 12th, Amherst 17th, and Connecticut College 23rd in the latest poll. In last year’s championship, Middlebury finished 17 points ahead of runner-up Williams. Amherst edged Hamilton for third place. Junior Jessica Johnston of Middlebury earned individual medalist honors last year. The women’s race begins at noon at the Amherst College Women’s Course.

The Williams men’s team enters the championship ranked eighth in the nation. Tufts is ranked 15th and Trinity is ranked 16th in the latest poll. In last year’s championship, Williams finished 12 points ahead of Tufts with Bates and Trinity finishing third and fourth, respectively. Sophomore Neal Hannan was the top runner for Williams in last year’s conference championship race, placing fourth. The men’s race begins at noon at the Amherst College Men’s Course.
